  • "Teaching Critical Thinking Skills - Why" (Plenary session)

             Zarina Subhan-Brewer

Critical thinking is a skill that is needed more and more in the 21st century where information is plentiful and we need to be more selective over what we accept as given or not.

Education beyond school requires a sense of enquiry, research as well as the ability to decide what is reliable information and not. Now that knowledge is widely available, it is a very important skill to be able to think and reflect rather than memorise information.

This presentation will look at ways we can bring in critical thinking skills to add to English language teaching and why educator believe it is good for our students.

  • "Teaching Mixed-Ability Classes - Differentiated Teaching & Learning"

               Alfredo Salas

Teaching mixed-ability classes has become more and more challenging in the last few years. Most teachers have face it at one time or another. In Fact, to a certain extent, all classes are mixed – ability. Students learn at different speeds, in different ways, have different interests, etc.

Accounting for these differences among learners is a big challenge.

This session seeks to explore practical ideas that can help teachers to unlock their language learners ‘potential in the context of a mixed – ability session.
